Amblyopia In Children
It's always sad to see a child have a medical problem. Children can get this problem, also known as "lazy eye" (which is really not an accurate description). Generally, it affects only one eye.
There is little or no transmission of an image to the brain. Ironically, part of the treatment involves placing an eye patch over the good eye. It is not the eye that's the problem, but a part of the brain.
It's almost as if there is no proper coordination between that part of the brain and the affected eye. However, treatment can certainly help improve this condition and restore a more proper vision.
Choosing A Patch
Work closely with your doctor. For example, certain patches are more suited for amblyopia than others. There are adhesive as well as non-adhesive patches. You can actually buy some of these over-the-counter patches at some of the pharmacies.

As a parent, you can certainly play a big part in helping your child adapt, including making it a fun time, so that your child will even enjoy having the patch on while he/she learns to improve vision.
